Seriously. Getting a good deal to me is equivalent to sex with a very attractive women.
I purchased my car last year with 65k miles for $5,500. Clean title, one owner (distant cousins age 65+ both school principals), all records.
When they told me the price I nearly threw my money at them. I pretty much did, withdrew it from my savings at 9am the next morning. Sold my Focus, sat back and smiled.
The car needed nothing.. It was a gen II LS V8 Sport. Far more reliable and sought after than the prior generation. I remember detailing it shortly after I got it and thinking: I could put this on Craigslist right now and make a good $2,000-$2,500 profit. I almost did in fact, but then I thought I will never get a deal like this again..
But wait it gets better, the LS suffers from coil-on-plug failures as well as bad valve cover gaskets. These problems were so bad that Ford put out a little hush hush warranty on them for 10 years 100,000 miles. I brought it into the Lincoln dealership and it came out with 8 brand new coils, plugs, and valve cover gaskets. Guess how much...$0000.00. Yeah, I just got a $1,000+ job for nothing.
So I'm sitting on this Lincoln because I'll know I will NEVER get a deal like this again. That makes me feel good. I'm getting close to selling, I hope I'll make close to what I got it for, most likely more. This !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! showed up in my area.. Pretty much exactly the same options with way more miles for $12,000. They will never get that, but it feels good knowing I didn't get suckered into owning one of these for blue book value.
Next car on the list...
Very very soon.

I always loved the LS but yeah they are money pits for sure. Google "QuikLS" theirs a guy running around on lincoln vs cadillac who threw an eaton M90 on his V8 LS

He wrecked it :( Axles just couldn't handle the power. IIRC his insurance was pretty forgiving, they gave him a fair amount.

One of my favorites from the early 00s. They are very pretty cars and handle rather well too right?

Yes, they're a joy to drive. For the right price..

I really like these cars. I worked on them for a few years and learned their quirks and realized that they are pretty easy to rectify. But one thing you will experience is at least one failed window regulator. But they are somewhat easy to deal with as long as you have a riveter, suction cups attached to wire and a drill.
I almost picked up a cashmere on camel 05 with 110,000 miles on it last year for $5,000 but it was sold right before I called the dude about it. I was kind of bummed. But they are an extremely nice car to drive, they just have too soft of a suspension for any sort of sporting nature but they do pick up speed quite nicely and act like a nice highway cruiser.
You got a good deal and hopefully I can find one for a decent price before they all get run into the ground.

They handle decently, but they have a really soft suspension that likes to bottom out over large bumps if you take them too fast.

Well at least the soft suspension is great of daily commute

Exactly, they were never intended for pure sport even though the LS designation stands for Luxury Sport. . . From what I remember you could get some aggressive alignment specs on them though. They are pretty nice cars with a somewhat tight drivers cocoon if you are on the larger side of the human scale but overall they were a great car.

I'm curious what you consider a firm suspension. What trims did you drive? I would definitely label this more firm than normal. I cringe going over Michigan's roads.
My previous owner had both the front window regulators replaced (read it in the stack of receipts). They all seem to have the same problems which makes them easier to justify owning. Coils, vcg, dccv, plastic cooling system parts, transmission solenoid pack on certain years, typical suspension components. I won't get into the GenI problems...
I honestly like this car despite the annoying transmission. Don't think I'd own one again though, maybe a S-type R.

I worked on and drove all years and trims that the LS was made in. High speed damping was pretty good, but its the low speed that gets you.
All of them have pretty much the same issues and are relatively easy to correct once you know them. I want one for maybe about a year and that's it. You are correct, the gen I cars can be a bit of a handful with all the little niggles. I think the main issue I have with them is that crappy ass transmission they decided to put in there. But as long as you keep the maintenance up they are pretty good cars.

The transmission is really my only complaint.
It's one of the few cars I've driven that feels good at 100mph. I haul some serious ass in the frequent 3 hour trips I have to make. All while averaging 24mpg.
If you're in Michigan and you want a well cared for LS it should be on Craigslist in the next couple months haha.

I'm in California so I don't think I'll be in your market.
